【2025 Update】Hualien & Taroko Gorge Travel Guide: Current Conditions and How to Enjoy Your Visit

Taroko National Park in Hualien is famous for its dramatic cliffs, clear rivers, and breathtaking scenery. However, earthquakes and typhoons in recent years have significantly affected access to some trails and tourist areas.

Current Situation:

  • Popular trails such as Swallow Grotto, Shakadang Trail, and Nine Turns Trail remain closed for safety.

  • Entrance to Taroko National Park is free, but some hard trails (e.g., Zhuilu Old Trail) require permits and fees.

  • Safe areas to visit include the park entrance and Tianxiang, with parking and visitor facilities available.

  • Main trails and viewpoints are closed—avoid hiking long distances or accessing restricted areas.

Safety Tips:

  • Avoid visiting during heavy rain or landslide risk.

  • Check official websites for the latest trail and access updates.

  • Do not enter closed areas or go on long hikes in restricted zones.

Although Taroko National Park is not fully restored in 2025, parts of it remain accessible. Enjoy the natural beauty safely by checking official updates and weather, and take the opportunity to explore Hualien’s East Coast scenery as well.
