We’d like to introduce one of Taiwan’s upcoming holidays. October 10 is National Day, also known as Double Ten Day. It is the national holiday that marks the founding of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Why October 10?
National Day originates from the Wuchang Uprising on October 10, 1911. This was the beginning of the revolution against the Qing Dynasty, which later developed into the Xinhai Revolution, eventually leading to the establishment of the Republic of China on January 1, 1912.
October 10, 1911 → Wuchang Uprising (start of the revolution)
January 1, 1912 → Founding of the Republic of China
That’s why October 10 is celebrated as National Day.
How is National Day celebrated?
Every year, large-scale ceremonies and events are held. In front of the Presidential Office Building, there’s a national ceremony featuring the President’s speech, flag-raising, military parades, and even air shows. Throughout the day, you’ll also see celebratory parades, concerts, and a spectacular fireworks show at night. Streets are decorated with national flags, filling the atmosphere with patriotic spirit.

National Day in 2025 → A 3-day long weekend!
This year, National Day (October 10) falls on a long weekend from October 10–12. Domestic travel is expected to increase, and celebrations won’t only be in Taipei but also across Taiwan. The 2025 National Day fireworks festival will be held in Nantou County.
